This Sunday in RS

Dear Sisters,

As you review this week's lesson in the Joseph Smith manual, "God the Eternal Father", there is one profound thought and question that we would like to emphasize this week, and it is:

"Why is it impossible to comprehend ourselves if we do not comprehend the character of God?"

Please take a minute to ponder on this one and come prepared to be edified and participate in a great discussion.
See you Sunday!

Scrapbooking

Join us this Friday the 18th in the church cultral hall. We will scrap from 9-12. Bring any project & your kids!!

January Calendar

Please note the sewing class on the 22nd has been canceled and will be rescheduled.

Thanks for helping with the Mortimers

Bishop, please pass along our gratitude to all your ward members for their sacrifices and service to Tony and Francelle and children. You did for them all we could not, for which we will be eternally grateful. We know you will continue to serve them with love and watchful care, for which we will pray our Heavenly Father's blessings to be with you.

Are you a concerned citizen??

Hi all, I wanted to make you aware of an issue in our community. Developers in Laveen, a few of whom are on Phoenix's city council, decided in December to build a 500 unit apartment complex 500 feet north of 27th Avenue and Baseline. The entire surrounding community disagreed with the decision - stating that it is not a good fit for an area that is largely single family residences and acre horse properties, with 27th Ave also not being a major arterial road. Additionally, the decision violated the General Development Plan for Laveen Village, which was adopted in 1998 (these plans typically have a 20 year life). The council ignored this feedback, and went ahead and amended the General Plan and rezoned the land. Michael Nowakowski, our recently elected councilman, was the only person to vote against this.

Volunteers Jen and Randy Jones in Laveen have put together a petition drive. The requirement is to gather 12000 signatures from City of Phoenix residents, and with that we have a solid chance of blocking this building project from occurring. We need the signatures by the end of January 2008.

If you are interested in signing or in becoming a petition circulator, please contact me, Wade Eagar at wadebyron@gmail.com or my cell, 602-358-4616

Next Sunday's Lesson

Sisters,

In order to receive the greatest possible benefit from our Sunday lessons this year, I'd like to encourage you to encorporate the weekly reading assignments into your personal study during the week. If you will spend a little time reviewing the material that will be taught, you will be in a better position to receive guidence from the spirit during the lessons and better able to contribute thoughtful comments to strengthen the spirit in our Relief Society.

Next week's lesson comes from our Joseph Smith Manual and will be taught by Sister Higginbotham. Please spend some time with the following questions and readings this week- we look forward to an enriching discussion Sunday!

For Lesson 1 - The First Vision:

When you first learned of the First Vision, what
effect did the account have on you? What effect has it
had on you since then?

Please read Joseph Smith History ch. 1 v. 5, 7-26

Thank you!
